In Bangladesh, Bibi Russel puts fashion at the service of development
Born in Bangladesh and a graduate of the London College of Fashion, Bibi Russel was a world famous top model in the 1970s. Back to her country in 1994, she continued her career as a stylist and founded her own fabric and accessories design company, Bibi Production, which employed 35,000 people as of 2004.
Committed to helping the most disadvantaged, Bibi Russel develops Bangladesh's textile industry around the world with its "Fashion for Development" program. Its social involvement has been recognized with several international awards and it benefits from the support of UNESCO.
Bibi Russel advocates ethical fashion for development. In 2017, her company employed around 100,000 weavers in Bangladesh. Bibi Russell is a member of the Bengla Academy, which promotes the development of Bengali culture.
In October 2017, she organized a parade in London called Survivors ’Runway which she dedicated to all women and girls who suffered from gender-based violence.
